BAND TO WATCH: Brooklyn’s Sweet Bulbs are working on a full length LP, but until then they’ve been dropping songs across the web. Their music is a mix of gauzy vocals, pop melodies, and hard-pounding reverb-wrenched guitar. Okay, so it’s a bit cliche for a writer to describe bands as “a cross between …” — but I’m going to do it anyway. Sweet Bulbs is like a mix of The Breeders, a roughed-up Lush and Jesus and Mary Chain. This Big Apple quartet released “Springstung” earlier this year, and now follow up that track with two more songs, “Eyes Feathers” and “Kissing Clouds”. Listen to the latter below. “Kissing Clouds” is a sweet piece of pop-punk noise rock. Lead singer Inna’s alto vocals (sounding quite like Liz Phair) strain and break at all the right times and to great effect. It’s a gem. – David D. Robbins Jr.
