WITH PASSION: Francois Peglau has his new record finalized, and showing his wonderfully dark sense of humor, entitled it “The Imminent Failure of Francois Peglau”. It’s the same modest, and fun twist of humor he shows on his bouncily beautiful 70s-styled Beatlesesque track, “Everybody Loves Me”: “I say Everybody loves me / Everybody loves a fool / Everybody trusts me /Everybody trusts a fool.” He’s also created a new black and white video (see below) for one of my favorite songs on his record, “God and the Unconscious Want Me Dead!”, that spoofs hitman films, in a French New Wave style. It’s a real treat to watch. It’s a little movie that finds Peglau being hired out as a “hitman” as he travels through Berlin and London to find “Mr. X”. On the way, he battles a few women in a style that can only be described as a humorous “Kill Bill” spoofing. Peglau is Peruvian, but now lives in London. Despite being away from home, he’s kept his Latin flair for mixing fun and passion in his music. The finalized record is a mix of some of his earlier singles and a number of new songs, including one he just sent me, “We Know We Won’t Make It”. The song begins with a squeaky synth and cooing chorus, before Peglau sings lyrics about running away with a girl from the night of the world. It’s pretty, melancholic, lovelorn and fatalistic: “Look little girl, / All that glitters is not gold / The night is coming back, and will take away our souls.” For an archived Their Bated Breath post on Peglau and his music click here. – David D.
