Chromatics | Kill For Love LP (Stream)

Johnny Jewel’s Chromatics finally released “Kill For Love” earlier this week, after teasing with videos for songs “Lady” and “Back From the Grave” for months. Jewel has now posted the entire 17-song record for streaming on his soundcloud page, with the title track as a free download. The first song, “Into the Black”, sounds just like old Neil Young. The title track is a lithe song that drips with late 80s-90s nostalgia for romantic bubblegum pop, crystalline synth, and jangly melodic guitar. This is one of the best records released this year. Its influences are vast, moving playfully through electronic dance, synth-pop, club, soul, ambient — just to name a few. Read archived Their Bated Breath posts about Chromatics here. – David D.
