A REMIX: Admittedly, I’m one of those people that hears the word “remix” and thinks, “Okay, a good song turned into a bad Ibiza club track.” It stands to reason, because people don’t try to remix bad songs. They take a good one and tinker with it. But I still try to give remixes a chance. Ultimately, they’re a way to take what’s best about our favorite songs, cut it up, deconstruct it and put it back together in a new form that extenuates what we liked about the original in the first place. I do recognize great remixes. For example, Zero 7’s remix of Radiohead’s “Climbing Up the Walls” is a beauty. But they’re so few and far between. Anyway, here’s a new remix of Radiohead’s “Kid A” from DangerDan over at SoundCloud. I don’t love or hate it. But it’s wearing on me positively. I can at least say, I didn’t press “stop” after 30 seconds, like I do with the majority of remixes. Production is pretty good on his remix, and at the 2:32 mark DD adds in a cool reverberating beat. Lots of unique transitions. — Words and artwork by David D. Robbins Jr.
