MODERN DISBELIEF | Blackbird Blackbird

THE SONGSMITH: Blackbird Blackbird might have the record for most blogged about artist on Their Bated Breath. The sheer volume of music coming from him keeps growing, and so much of it high quality. His latest single is called “Modern Disbelief”, melding some of the best of 80s and 90s nostalgia. The song begins like it’s going to be a chillwave cut before the lyrics kick in, and turn it into a hazy 80s track more akin to early Matt Johnson, circa “Burning Blue Soul”. It eventually turns all retro-beautiful with warped synth and a repeated chorus. There’s even some high falsetto vocals pushing the track into a soulful realm. It’s really a pretty song. Wait until you get to the end, when the cut turns back on itself in all its subtle warped glory. To listen to his latest tracks go to his tumblr page— David D. Robbins Jr.
