Dallas’ Conner Youngblood sent over a soundcloud link to a new single, “Australia”, a soulful follow-up to the eerie track “Monsters” that he put out last year. This one begins with a heavy marching percussion, and drops the foreboding atmosphere of the latter for a more rhythmic beat, and piano balladry. The hypnotic vocal track is still there, but it’s much more mellowed out. This is more about the soft seduction and whispers in the ear. This new track has more in common with Bon Iver than the Massive Attack style of “Monsters”. Youngblood is showing he can create a number of different styles of tracks, each with their own unique sense of nuance. Follow Youngblood on twitter and facebook. — David D. Robbins Jr.
