Straight-up awesome. Since 2007, Black Cab Sessions has featured a number of artists from Grizzly Bear and Beach House, to St. Vincent and Ane Brun. The concept is simple, but sweet. The website offers one-song performances from artists recording in the back of a black cab, common to Britain. The most recent post at Black Cab Sessions is a beautiful version of “Undiscovered First”, a track off Feist’s newest record “Metals”. The song has a cinematic/pioneer kind of vibe. It’s a love song with many unanswered questions, shaded by the specter of death: “I had what I thought were clear open eyes / Bright blue / Vision of a lake / Carrying pictures to lay on you …” It’s a great recording, Feist banging her hand on the ceiling of the cab to add some percussive weight.
