DUCKY | The Tropics (Video/Live)
I don’t post a whole lot of live videos of shows, but I can make an exception for Ducky. As you can tell from my writing about her on this blog, I just can’t get enough of her music. I think it’s inventive, fun, sensual, and confident in all the right ways. Hopefully, this will be her year — following on the strength of her killer 7-inch “Killing Time/Your Ever After” (the former a Their Bated Breath Top 10 song of 2011) and word of mouth. If the world is a fair place, she should be playing amid some of those festival shows with other musicians and bands as talented as she is. Some of her music is purely experimental electronics, with a sexual edge, like her 10-song bandcamp release, “Boys Club”, but at other times she goes all danceable and melodic. Watch the video above, a performance of Ducky singing “The Tropics”, and see what I mean. Don’t let all the carefree dancing fool you. There’s a real creative mind at work there. Ducky has a great sense for lyrical phrasing, with a diva’s flair for deliver — with lyrics cleverly written for dance music, “We’re too young to be this happy / We’re too old to understand.” Clearly, Ducky is someone who truly enjoys performing her music.
