BEAT CULTURE | Before You Go (Video)

We first heard Beat Culture on a Tree track called “Stuck Down the Wrong Rabbit Hole”, which was named one of the best songs of 2011 by Their Bated Breath. This time Beat Culture has a new video for his own song, the elegiac piano-based beauty “Before You Go”. It’s a single off his upcoming January 15th release, “Tokyo Dreamer”. Beat Culture is 17-year-old Sunik Kim, from Hong Kong. And his song, “Before You Go” is simply arranged, deeply melodic and moving with its jazzy/dub rhythm, the sound of ocean waves in the background, lonely piano chords, light percussion, and the soulfully-sung repeated phrase, “You, baby …” It’s a marvelous song. Listen below. The track follows Beat Culture’s 2011 LP, “Goldenbacked Weaver”, which you can hear in full at his bandcamp page. You can follow Beat Culture on facebook and twitter. Note: Photo by W. Carpenter from artist’s facebook page. The video is directed by Brendan Canty of Feel Good Lost — David D. Robbins Jr.
