NITE JEWEL | Visions (Stevie Wonder cover)

Nite Jewel (aka Ramona Gonzalez) covers the Stevie Wonder gem, “Visions”, from off his 1973 masterpiece “Innervisions”. This cover version was created in honor of Yours Truly site founder Will Abramson’s late sister Lauren. Nite Jewel’s moving rendition of this heavily spiritual ballad is stripped down to the song’s core melody. Wonder’s song is about peace as utopia, and is one of my all-time favorites: “I’m not one who make believes / I know that leaves are green / They only turn to brown when autumn comes around / I know just what I say / Today’s not yesterday / And all things have an ending / But what I’d like to know / Is could a place like this exist so beautiful / Or do we have to find our wings and fly away, / To the vision in our mind?” (I’ve always thought the original song, with it’s reflective electric flamenco guitar skitters, sounds so beautiful, like seagulls on a beach.) Download the song below from a link directed to the Yours Truly soundcloud page. You can also purchase a limited 7-inch digital single featuring two songs, “She’s Always Watching You” and “Sister”, that Nite Jewel released back in December. That songs are available at Love Letter Ink, a label run by Yours Truly. All purchases send a $1 direct donation to the Lauren Abramson Memorial Fund, which benefits the Citizens Schools of California. It helps children to become successful in school.
