I don’t do a whole lot of promotion, except for the events I truly love. I’m not sure I’ll be able to make my way to the Mission Creek Festival in Iowa City this time around, but don’t let that stop you from going. I’ve enjoyed it over the years, seeing acts like Little Dragon. This time around is the seventh annual festival, taking place from March 27 through April 1, 2012. The six-day celebration takes over the venues and art spaces in downtown Iowa City, and includes literature readings as well as music. Once again, the lineup is a beauty — something Iowa and the festival organizers can be proud of. It includes Sharon Van Etten, Justin Townes Earle, Bowerbirds, Tim Hecker, William Fitzsimmons, Little Scream — and some 60+ other artists. So head on down to Iowa City, the weather is wonderful and the atmosphere couldn’t be better. The shows are the kind that are large enough to create the communal good-time feeling, and yet small enough where you can get right up close and dance to the songs of your favorite bands. As far as festivals are concerned, it doesn’t get any better. Click here to see a full list of the bands and get more information on times, dates, and cost. — David D. Robbins Jr.
