Hume’s track “Phasing” is right in my wheelhouse, and perhaps yours too. The experimental Baltimore band posted a video for the song on vimeo. Watch and listen below. It’s marvelously textured, as African percussion melds with all kinds of distortion, scraping sounds, computerized blips, a wash of white noise, and understated vocals. It’s an intoxicating merging of moody atmospherics. The song is elegant enough to be soothing, but also has a tension largely created by an ever-present synth drone that sounds like a harmonium. It’s majestic. There’s method in all this musical madness. Follow the quartet at tumblr. — David D. Robbins Jr.
