Sera Cahoone | Naked

It’s been awhile since I last remember listening to Seattle’s Sera Cahoone. It happens. Sometimes we listen to a musician and time passes before the next record and memory fades. So, it’s good to run back into that artist when their music happen to cross your path again. The first Cahoone song I heard was a drowsy blues, folky, Appalachian-influenced number called “Shitty Hotel”, a track off her first official LP, 2008’s “Only as the Day Is Long”. It’s a slow-burner, light, and sexy — a relationship song made for long nights and even longer roads: “You say you want to be somewhere else / But I’ve got everything you love / In this room / In this nighttime / So don’t leave me here tonight, in this shitty hotel room / There’s blankets on the floor / The fans been out for way to long / Why make it harder than it already is, for us in here?” The song contains beautiful bits of harmonica and banjo. Four years later, Cahoone has come back with another record, “Deer Creek Canyon”, out Sept. 25 via Sub Pop. She also has a new single, “Naked”, for you to listen to or download below. Note: All lyrics are unofficial. — David D. Robbins Jr.
