Manuela Leal (aka Anna-Anna) already knows what I think of her music. It’s gorgeously strange and cerebral in many ways. Don’t get me wrong, there are stories and themes within her songs, but they work as slowly as evolution. Her songs form with a delicacy and patience. They’re internal landscapes unfolding — a building here, a setting of mood there, an aphorism here. Needless to say, I am a big fan of the songstress’ 2011 four-song EP, “Last Night I Lit the Moon”. (You can read more about that record here.) What I respect the most about Anna-Anna’s music is her honest expression. What I mean is, she’s highly experimental. Her music doesn’t sound like anyone else’s really. And what she sings about isn’t on too many other artist’s lyric sheets. But when you listen to her, it doesn’t feel like a put-on. It’s real. It’s her. And it’s a style of music you can’t pigeon-hole. Anna-Anna posted a new video for the title track. Watch below.
