I love this track from Canada’s duo Prince Innocence (Talvi Faustmann and Josh McIntyre), covering Suicide’s 1977 post-glam classic “Cheree”: “Cheree, Cheree / My comic book fantasy / Oh, I love you.” This cover follows a list of other beautifully created tracks from the band, like the single “Girls”, and the three-song EP, “Night People” — which features the standout “Shells”. It’s great to hear new bands tap into old-school tracks,. It gives the songs a reboot and a reassessment after the fact. Prince Innocence’s version of “Cheree” features Faustmann’s lead vocals, singing where the original was more an whispered incantation. The spiraling synth and backing vocals give the song a unique twist. You can stream Prince Innocence’s songs at bandcamp, or follow the duo at soundcloud and facebook.
