Jenny O. | Automechanic

It’s been just short of two years since I’d last written about Jenny O. and her delightful five-song EP “Home”, which featured songs mostly centered on her sweet vocal sounds and an acoustic guitar. Now she has a new track out, “Automechanic”, which is also the name of the upcoming release, due out February 5th via her own label, Holy Trinity. It has more in common with Neko Case than the sound of her previous record, but does have that familiar, dry tongue-and-cheek. The song begins with a waltzy tremolo guitar, and her drifting twee vocals about a sort of out-of-body experience, where she becomes a farmer, and yes, an automechanic. It’s a real beauty. You can follow Jenny O. at facebook and twitter. Read archived Their Bated Breath posts about her here. You can download the song below, which the artist is giving away for free, and visit Daytrotter to hear and download her performance of a five-song set that includes a version of “Automechanic”. — David D.
