Darkstar band member James Young says the group’s upcoming release “News From Nowhere” is a “record is its own thing, in its own bubble and time.” And it’s easy to understand a little bit of that listening to an early single, “Timeaway”. It’s a beautiful metronomic time keeper, with distorted and elongated vocals, windy echoes, melodic chimes, high falsetto, and even an odd noise that sounds like the squawk of a seagull or porpoise made electronic (1:31 mark). The single will be released on 12-inch vinyl with 10 locked-groove loops on November 12 via Warp Records. You can download “Timeaway” for free, at the band’s website, with the cost of an e-mail address. However, the new album will be released February 5, 2013. — David D. Robbins Jr.
