I had first heard 2muchachos and their song “I’m Not Afraid of Cold Air” thanks to the digital label BEKO. Ever since, I’ve been hooked on their style of ambient music. It’s patient and probing, and probably not all that suited to your average music listener in this day and age of speed and short-term everything. You get out of 2muchachos’ music what you put into it. The first track, “Forest Breath”, off their latest record “Forest Is Not What It Seems” will give you an idea of what to expect and if that kind of music is for you. It begins with the whistling of wind, a low drone, an echo like distance noise in a quiet basement, and then there’s a clatter and sounds like radar pings. It slowly build into its own kind of world, its own sound. You’ll have to wait until the second track before you hear any vocals, a light female voice trailing slightly behind a light paper-box percussion, a shimmering of keyboard and carefully picked acoustic guitar. It’s sublimely pretty. You can listen to the 13-song record at bandcamp. — David D. Robbins Jr.
