James Blake | Voyeur

James Blake and his new 1-800-DINOSAUR label posted a video for the track, “Voyeur”, off his upcoming album “Overgrown”, due out on April 8. The song has a much different feel than the soulful earlier single release, “Retrograde”. “Voyeur” feels closer to the tracks on his debut LP release, where Blake finds ways to sample himself and build around those repeated phrases. In fact, in the beginning of the cut, the song feels like a record player stuck in a groove, which may be the reason for the video opening the way it does. Blake finds a way to bring it all back around into a steady romantic groove, building upon it, morphing into a club romp with frenetic beats, bells, and hyperactive synth. The new record also has a few surprises, including a song, “Digital Lion”, produced by Brian Eno, and “Take a Fall” which features rapper RZA.
