London’s CRIM3S (Sadie Phelps and Isaac/Sloww Ddeath) just released their new five-song EP, “Stay Ugly”,and it’s just as dark and maddening as the singles they’ve been dropping over the last year and a half, including those on their self-titled EP. The album opener is an older track, “lost”, that previously had a video release in 2012. And it’s a great introduction for what to expect from the rest of the record, an experiment in the sinister, scary, and seductive — with screaming vocal distortions, heavy club beats, creepy dub, trance, and warped electronics. My favorite new track is “DOSE”, which opens like some energized European dance-club number (dark-bass resonance withstanding) before Sadie’s vocals come in. That’s when the song transforms into wail upon wail of obsession and pure release. It’s wonderful. Listen to “DOSE” below and you’ll hear what I mean. You can purchase a 7-inch vinyl version of the record at this link. — David D. Robbins Jr.
