Braids are back with a new 12-inch record, “In Kind/Amends”, set to be released on June 11 via Arbutus. News of his album arrives after the band’s 18-month tour in support of “Native Speaker”, and after the departure of keyboardist Katie Lee (judging by the band’s latest group PR photos) — who very kindly, years ago, sent me some demo versions of the band’s early songs. The two title tracks on the Montreal group’s new 12-inch will be released on an upcoming LP. You can listen to “Amends” in the above video. It’s definitely a new kind of sound for Braids, using more electronics, including a pulsating dub vibe and the distorted lead vocals of Raphaelle Standell-Preston. It’s pretty. There are two exclusive b-side songs on the 12-inch, “Near Enough” and “A Dawn In Me”. For Their Bated Breath archived posts about the band click here.
