I’ve been wearing out this impassioned Mikky Ekko track, “Disappear”, which he’s labeled “ruff demo” on soundcloud, despite being one of the best things he’s created. Might just be a slight case of underselling, or false modesty. Whatever the case, it’s beautiful, pulsating and transporting. It’s a song seemingly about being alone and contemplative about love on a rainy day: “So long to the life we used to know / ‘Cuz every time I close my eyes / I want to disappear with you / Yeah, and I hope you want to disappear too.” Listening to so much music every year makes me feel like I can spot false sentiment like somewhere dropped a bucket of red paint on pavement. And this track feels earnest to me, and largely that’s one of its strengths. You can follow Mikky Ekko at facebook. — David D. Robbins Jr.
