Leave it to Black Francis and the Pixies to drop their first new track since 2004’s “Bam Thwok”, without warning. Of course, it’s the Pixies, so word-of-mouth about “Bagboy”, along with a new video and a revamped static page are enough to set music fans to asking (like someone did on YouTube), “What the fuck is going on?” Obscenities and playful confusion aside, it’s pretty simple: You can download this new track for free courtesy of the Pixies. It was announced this month that bassist Kim Deal (who sounds like she’s still a part of the new track) left the band to perhaps pursue other musical avenues. She’s been busy with the Breeders, touring behind a 20th-anniversary edition of their 1993 album, “Last Splash”. The Pixies and fan/official site PixiesMusic.com also recently ended a successful Kickstarter campaign, in an effort to fund the creation of a book called, “Pixies: A Visual History”. The video was directed by LAMAR+NIK. Director of photography, Spenser Sakurai. You can even check out a number of photos/stills on Flickr from the shooting of the video, courtesy of the director. — David D. Robbins Jr.
