RY X | Vampires

Move over Justin Vernon. RY X (aka Ry Cuming) is about to release his “Berlin EP” on vinyl and digital on August 28 through the Swedish label Dumont Dumont. The hushed “Vampires” is the second track from Los Angeles transplant, and it might make you clear out a space next to your Volcano Choir record. “Vampires” is lyrically dark but musically wistful like a romance in its infancy. Double-tracked high-falsetto vocals blend with resonating atmospheric guitar and feather-light, echoing industrial drums. It’s a pretty beginning for a record that should be greatly anticipated by music listeners. (Or you could stream it via Spotify.) Rough Trade is calling his sound “exquisite audio silk”, and for once the PR description is damn accurate. You can follow RY X at facebook. — David D. Robbins Jr.
