I can’t tell you a whole lot about The Acid, except that you’ve got to listen to their track, “Fame”, with its pulsating bleeps and club-beat build that fall away gracefully into drifting guitars and a sugar melt of fluttery high falsetto. Maybe there’s a Bowie touchstone in there somewhere, inspiring the track, but musically there’s no relation. There’s more kinship with Wild Beasts and Hayden Thorpe. But even that dissipates when the song takes an ambient bent, cavernous backing vocals building over the top of computerized beats and a steadily increasing rhythmic pace. It’s majestic.
