Mark Lanegan | Deepest Shade (Cover)

Troubadour and weathered-voiced veteran Mark Lanegan is set to release a record of covers called “Imitations”, out on September 17th via Vagrant Records.  Two months ago, Lanegan posted a stream of his version of John Cale’s “I’m Not the Loving Kind”. Now, he’s followed that song with a dusky, moving and ultimately faithful take on the heartbreaking, boozy-ballad “Deepest Shade”, a cover of Greg Dulli’s Twilight Singers song: “My love I hope it’s true / This deeper shade of blue / My love I give to you.” “Imitations” features Lanegan covering songs from artists as varied as Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Andy Williams. Follow Lanegan on facebook and twitter— David D. Robbins Jr.
