Savages have a new video for “Husbands”, off their 2013 debut record “Silence Yourself”. The band’s critical success finds a number of reviewers picking up on a variety of influences, as wide-ranging as Siouxsie and the Banshees and Joy Division. Though that is true enough, “Husbands” is without a doubt a child of Patti Smith’s “Land” trilogy, and more specifically, the first part, “Horses”. It feels more than natural to swap out the repeated one-word chorus “husbands” for “horses”. In a way, the song is a wonderful homage to one of the artists that helped pave the way for Savages — with her watusi — switchblades preferred. Video directed by John Minton.
