This newly streaming Lushes track, “Dead Girls”, is the latest single from off the band’s upcoming release, “What Am I Doing”, out via Felte on March 4. And it seems timely that the song can be heard a few days after Slint announced the big blowout special boxset, because it sounds like a track that takes after “Spiderland” (1991). It seems to snake its way into the ears, playing on the range and scale between noise and quiet moments. The lyrics are sedate and nonchalant (about zombies), the guitar, bass and lead guitar hovering just behind the vocals until the band interrupts the calm with eruptions and explosions of feedback, banging percussion and screeching guitar.
