I’m loving this fantastic, ghostly DIY song, “Tame One”, from Your Friend (aka Kansas artist Taryn Miller). It’s a track off her six-song EP debut, “Jekyll/Hyde”, out now digitally and on CD and 12-inch on April 8th via Domino Records. There’s so much to love about this gorgeous track, with its light guitar reverberations which feel like a stand-in for memory and the way it dissipates outward in fading ripples and waves. The lead vocals are a paradox, on the one hand broken and fragile, but on the other hand, sounding more controlled and substantial as the song progresses. Listening to “Tame One”, it’s easy to hear that deep, earthy, augural vocal quality of a singer like Lower Dens’ Jana Hunter. It’s the kind of voice that feels ancient, as true as time.
