Lia Ices | Thousand Eyes

It’s been around three years since I last wrote about Lia Ices, back when she released “Grown Unknown” in 2011, a year after signing with Jagjaguwar. Now she’s streaming a new song, “Thousand Eyes”, from an upcoming album simply titled “Ices” out September 16th via the same label. There’s also a lyric video, if that’s more your thing. I remember thinking, the first time I heard Lia Ices, that she reminded me of Argentina’s avant-garde singer-songwriter, Juana Molina, but this song is less esoteric than say, a song like the 2011 title track. It’s aim is clearly aimed more at the heart than the trying to experiment. A steady, pretty Spanish guitar flair highlights a melodic, steady groove. There’s a smooth elegance to the rhythm and combination of instruments. — David D. Robbins Jr.
