Grimes shared a video for a song, “REALiTi”, a previously-unheard track she recorded in 2013 for an early version of her Visions follow-up — which was eventually abandoned. She released the song and video today along with a shout out to all the fans who came out to her tour dates during her times travelling throughout Asia. “I’m releasing it as a special thank you to everyone in Singapore, KL, Manila, Jakarta, HK, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Seoul, Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo who came out to the shows!”. The video was directed by Grimes, who also explains the song’s existence and production: “This song was never finished. its a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early 2013. i lost the ableton file, so its not mixed or mastered. i tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so its a bit of a mess haha.” I don’t think Grimes is being disingenuous about how she describes her track, but clearly she hears something here worth sharing too. It’s a fantastic track. There’s a subtle addition to the beat at the 2:22 mark that’s a gorgeous expansion on the original beats. The video is sumptuous look at Asia via Grimes. — David D.
