TOUGH LOVE | Chloe Makes Music

THE DUEL: Chloe Makes Music is releasing her debut album “The Puppeteer” this fall, with the help of The Morning Benders‘ Chris Chu, who is working as the producer. The two collaborated on this duet, “The Duel” — which will be featured on upcoming record. Chu’s whispery vocals open this guitar-strummed love song: “We have signed on dotted lines / And crossed the line / The deals we sign / We break the promises we make / And lose the prisoners we take.” Chloe blends her elegantly clear vocals into his, before breaking off into verses all her own: “The armor falls when you come near / The jousting stops, reveals my fear / For you to know I worshiped you.” Her high-floating range mixes well with Chu’s skating consonance. The prettiest part of the song is the onomatopoeic line, “A loose balloon, but without air …”, with the word “air” sung in an elongated fashion until it trails off like slowly, sounding just like the imagery of the phrase itself. — Words & Artwork by David D.
