A new video from Happy Trendy (aka Dylan Khotin-Foote) for the song “Skinny Ghost” off his January release “Old Friends”. His music comes across with a lo-fi simplicity pushed through warm Casio notes, programmed percussion, wistful melodies and lonely-heart vocals, sung with a sedation like you hear in bossa nova. The music is a lesson in just how much you can do with so little. A beautiful song like “Two Grams” (my favorite song on the album) may be melancholy in subject matter, like most of the tracks on the record, but musically it’s more wistful than anything. The instrumentation is so light and carefree, it becomes so easy to be swept up in its sweet and reflective charm.
