THE SEA & CAKE | At Daytrotter

Our friends at Daytrotter have posted another sweet session today, featuring Chicago veterans The Sea And Cake. The band are coming off their 2011 six-track mini-album, “The Moonlight Butterfly”, released via Thrill Jockey. Sam Prekop and the boys are back to breaking-down song structures, and inventing their own creative mix of soft electronic forms on their ninth studio album. At Daytrotter, the band play two songs off the new album, “Up On the North Shore” and “Lyric”. But they also play “Weekend” off of “Car Alarm” (2008), “Middlenight” off “Everybody” (2007) and one of my favorites, “The Argument” off of 1997’s “The Fawn”. I still think Prekop’s solo debut, the self titled “Sam Prekop” is one of the best records I’ve heard. Well, thanks to Daytrotter, you can stream and download their five-song session for free at their website here. — David D. Robbins Jr.
