SO SMOOTH | J.Viewz-Kelli Scarr

AN EMERGENCE: Brooklyn’s Jonathan Dagan, of J.Viewz, is working on an album project called “Work In Progress”, and one of the tracks features former Moonraker singer Kelli Scarr. This is the second time Their Bated Breath have written about the talented Scarr. Her previous band was often called one of the best in Boston. But now she has gone solo, even penning a song with Moby for NPR and going on tour with him. This new track, “Oh, Something’s Quiet” was selected as the best song from the current “W.I.P.”, and can be downloaded for free until tomorrow morning. It’s slick, with a guitar riff that sounds like a distorted sample of Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds”. I know it’s not, but it’s still so smooth. (At the :44 second mark). Musically, it’s a sexy bit of electronica with strings, synth, guitar, warped sounds, clicks, blips and Scarr’s patented smooth vocals. Perhaps it’s the soulful feel of the track, but when I first heard this song, it made me think of Lisa Stansfield’s album “Real Love” and Shelby Lynne’s “I Am Shelby Lynne”. J.Viewz and Scarr compliment each other well. Note: Photo from Scarr’s MySpace page. — David D. Robbins Jr.
