Steffaloo | If You Were My Baby

“If you were my baby, baby / The sun would shine brighter / If you were my baby, baby / The stars would never die …” That’s the opening verse to Steffaloo’s pretty and melodic new track, “If You Were My Baby”, which should see a spot on her upcoming untitled record. Steffaloo says on her website that the song may get additional backing and a fuller sound, but until then enjoy this wonderful demo. There’s a hint of a moaning trumpet. The vocal harmonies play gorgeously over the top of it. The rhythmic changes are subtle. At first the song comes in lush and drawn-out, then a jumpy guitar is added, then it slows back down to a vocally-elongated loveliness. The song has tinges of romantic Spanish flair and folk simplicity. Comes highly recommended. Steffaloo says she’s been playing the song live for awhile now, but you can finally download a version at soundcloud. — David D. Robbins Jr.
