THE SEA AND CAKE | Live At Bowery

I’ve been listening to Sam Prekop and The Sea And Cake for a long time now. These Chicago experimenters have been around since 1994, and I’m always looking for their latest music. The live-concert blog site, NYCTaper, posted a whopping concert The Sea And Cake performed on November 8, 2011 at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. The show featured 17 songs, some banter, a false start to “A Fuller Moon” (and the song itself), encores and an unknown track. It’s a good chance to hear what the band sounds like live. The Sea And Cake are coming off a recent release, “The Moonlight Butterfly”, released this year via its longtime label Thrill Jockey Records. Listen below to one song from the show, “The Argument”, one of my favorites, that seems to put me in a good mood whenever I’m not. It’s a track from off their 2000 LP “Oui”. To download the entire show in MP3 format go to this page at NYCTaper. The shows are recorded with the band’s permission, and I recommend following NYCTaper as much as you can. It’s a great site. Here are the band’s latest tour dates. — David D. Robbins Jr.
