ANOMIE BELLE | Machine (f. Mr. Lif)

Anomie Belle’s upcoming release, “Machine” EP, features a song of the same name, that is poignant and sexy as hell. It’s an eclectic, neo-soul, electronic snaking with imaginative bursts and sporadic rhythms. Think Janelle Monae, old Imani Coppola, or the female vocal-led tracks of Tricky. The most melodic lyric is both beautifully sung and meaningful. It’s about a world of greed, self-interest and disconnection: “I have done unconscionable things / In pursuit of dreams fed to me on the screen / And how is my life so much more precious than anybody else.” It may be didactic, but it comes off well — and more importantly, true. Her EP will be out December 12th and will feature members of Sneaker Pimps, Mr Lif, and Big Spider’s Back. The song, “Machine” features a rapped verse from Mr Lif, who is talented is his own right, showcasing his skilled with The Perceptionists. — David D. Robbins Jr.
